Funny Bathroom Posters: The Picker That Actually Helps You Choose (Your Guests Will Notice)

Funny bathroom poster of the Mona Lisa pinching her nose — Da Vinci parody wall art for WC decor and quirky housewarming gift

There is one room in every home that nobody dares to decorate. One square metre, a door you close, a fluorescent bulb, and a plastic plant that has been collecting dust since 2019. Interior magazines skip it. Your guests, however, all walk through it. Every one.

That is exactly where a funny bathroom poster does its best work. It is the only room in the house where a person is alone, with their thoughts, and a wall in front of them. A blank wall is a missed opportunity. A wall with the right poster is thirty seconds of a smile — one they will bring back into the conversation when they return.

At Balthazart we have built two full families of posters specifically for this room. This guide helps you choose the right one, without second-guessing.

Two families, one effect

All of our bathroom / WC posters (nearly 200 designs) fall into two clean families. You can mix them, but each has its own personality. Know which one you want before you check out.

Family A — "Pinching-the-nose" classical parodies

The premise: take a masterpiece from the Louvre, the Rijksmuseum or the National Gallery, and give it the only honest reaction the framing justifies. Result: the Mona Lisa, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Whistler, Washington, Churchill, American Gothic… all pinching their noses, exactly like anyone standing where you're about to hang the poster.

Pick Family A if:

  • your guests appreciate the joke without needing it explained,
  • the bathroom leans "grown-up" (marble, brass, brushed concrete),
  • it's a housewarming gift for someone with a museum membership and a mid-century sofa.

Two best-sellers to start with:

Push a little further with American Gothic — Grant Wood parody if you want a bolder tone (the pitchfork couple is a triumph) or Winston Churchill pinching his nose for full British-humour energy.

Family B — Dogs biting the toilet paper roll

The premise: your favourite breed, caught at the exact moment it takes control of the situation. Over 40 breeds available, from the French Bulldog to the Great Dane — because the perfect funny bathroom poster is your dog, not a generic dog.

Pick Family B if:

  • there are kids in the house (the laugh is instant, no art-history required),
  • the guest bathroom should feel warm rather than curated,
  • you're shopping for a dog owner who knows their dog would do exactly this.

How to choose, in three questions

No need to lose yourself between 197 posters. Here's the internal algo we use when we DM back an undecided customer.

1. Who will be sitting opposite it? Kids → Family B (dog). In-laws → Family A (art parody). Thirty-something flatmates → either, but Family A wins at brunch.

2. What's the room's style? White subway tile + matte-black fixtures → art parody, 30×40 cm, black frame. Floral wallpaper + wicker basket → dog, 30×40 cm, light-wood frame. Concrete loft → oversized art parody (50×70 cm), unframed, pinned.

3. Gift or self-purchase? Housewarming gift → go Family A, safer to offer. Gift for a dog fan → Family B, with their breed, framed 30×40 cm: it's the format that unboxes the best.

Sizes, frames, and the classic mistake

All posters are printed in France, in 15 sizes (from 13×18 up to 84×119 cm). The single most common bathroom mistake is going too small: the opposite wall is bigger than you think, and an A4 ends up floating.

Our recommendation, tested across a thousand orders:

  • WC / small toilet — 30×40 cm, framed.
  • Main bathroom — 40×60 cm or 50×70 cm.
  • Row of three posters — three 30×40 cm aligned 10 cm apart. Devastating.

Four frame finishes (black, white, light wood, dark wood) cover almost every interior; the thin black frame is the safe default if you're stuck.

The under-rated move: the triptych

A single poster does the job. Three turns the room into a tiny absurd museum. The combination we see most in repeat orders:

  • Mona Lisa + Girl with a Pearl Earring + American Gothic → the "masterpieces that have finally had enough" triptych.
  • Three Family B breeds — customer's dog, partner's dog, the dog they're planning to adopt → guaranteed birthday gift.

At €25 apiece, a triptych comes to €75 — less than a scented candle that, incidentally, will make no one laugh.

What you actually get when you order

  • Printed in France, 200 gsm semi-matte paper (no glare under the WC fluorescent).
  • Delivery in 3–5 working days across metropolitan France, 5–8 days across the EU.
  • Optional framing at checkout — no surprise shipping surcharge.
  • 30-day returns if the poster doesn't "land" on the wall — we don't ask questions.

You now know which family you belong to. All that's left is to open the door, look at the right wall, and let the poster do what the plastic plant never could.
